How to spot fake real estate buyers

scam

Unfortunately, not all prospective clients are legitimate buyers (or sellers for that matter).

Some will exaggerate their interest just to take advantage of your expertise or possibly, for even more nefarious reasons.

We have asked some of our friends in the industry, what they consider, are the most reliable signs that a prospect is not genuine:

  • They cancel/postpone multiple appointments
  • Their story always changes
  • They can’t settle on a price point
  • They ask for strange favours that may have nothing to do with real estate
  • They will settle on any property, sight unseen
  • They can’t/won’t provide any financial information
  • They can’t/won’t give names, emails or phone numbers for their advisers
  • They are always having trouble with faxing/emailing you
  • They deflect and change the subject when you ask them if they would like to make an offer
  • They don’t want to meet you at the office
  • If they do not contact or respond to any lenders that you may have referred them to
