It’s mozzie season and Australians love outdoor entertaining so here is the low down on turning your property into a mosquito no-go zone.

Firstly, getting rid of the breeding site

s is critical to lowering the number of mosquitoes and protecting you and your family and guests from bites.

Mosquitoes only need a tiny bottle cap size of pool water to lay up to 200 eggs, so removing still water is critical.

Here is a list of things of more things that you can do to mitigate the likelihood of mosquitoes using your outdoor entertaining areas as breeding grounds.

  • Remove old tyres, tin cans, buckets of water or anything used to catch rain water
  • Keep drains free of trash and leaves to prevent flowing water stagnating
  • Check your air conditioning drip pans
  • Make sure all your gutters are free of leaves
  • Cover rubbish bins so that they don’t fill with rainwater
  • Fix leaky taps and hoses as mosquitoes breed in the water that pools underneath them
  • Change water in bird baths often and drip trays under flower pots
  • Be aware of tree stumps with hollow holes
  • Turn over kayaks and boats
  • Change tarps regularly that are covering firewood or an outdoor pool
  • Make sure screens on door and windows are well maintained.
  • Keep grass short and shrubbery trimmed
