New Pet Agreements for South Australia

The REISA have formalised a new pet agreement that protects both tenants with pets and landlords.

After consultation with the RSPCA and Shelter SA, the institute has integrated a Pet Agreement on the REI Forms Live  online platform.

The introduction of a formally approved REISA pet agreement should help in alleviating the reluctance of landlords to allow pets in their investment property.

While it is ultimately the landlord’s right to decide if they will allow pets into their property, the Agreement reinforces to the landlord, the tenant is responsible for and will care for their pet throughout the tenancy.

Allowing pets in the tenancy can help landlords secure a positive relationship with their tenant, whilst tenants can experience improved mental and physical health, as well as reducing the number of unwanted pets that end up in shelters.
