The ACCC, have recently released statistics indicating that $26 million, has been lost to investment scams in 2018 already.

Many of these losses are related to SMSF’s involving property and share scams.

These scams are quite sophisticated and the scammers are quite convincing.

Scammers will cold call victims either claiming to be a stockbroker or investment portfolio manager, claiming that they offer low-risk stocks or assets, that are about to go up significantly in value.

Binary option trading scams are also quite prevalent, where scammers pretend they can predict the movements of a commodity, asset or index prices and direct people to a trading platform

They will give the illusion that they have put your money into an account and demonstrate some successful trades, to encourage you to invest more funds.

Soon, the investors’ money starts to disappear and so does the scammer.

Avoid anyone touting terms like ‘’risk-free” or “low-risk, high returns”.

As the old adage says, if it sounds too good to be true- it probably is!
