Things that turn off potential home buyers

th-20

When it comes to selling your property, you can invest a massive amount of time, energy and money, getting it ready for sale.

However, sellers can really undermine their efforts, by leaving the wrong impression in their property.

Our friends in real estate tell us that sometimes, rightly or wrongly, a seller will leave something in the property that will offend some buyer.

They went on to tell us that it is better for sellers to depersonalise their house, as you want any buyer to feels as though they are comfortable in your home.

The risk of ignoring this advice is considerable- potential buyers will just turn around and leave, resulting in fewer offers for your property.

Here are some of things that may offend potential buyers:

  • Live animals ( One agent told us that a buyer had a monkey throw droppings at him, at a viewing)
  • Animal head trophies
  • Flags or other signs of nationalism ( get rid of the Nazi flag)
  • Sports memorabilia(not everyone likes the Rabbitohs or Collingwood)
  • Displays of nudity- baby pictures, artwork or pornography
  • Mysterious locked rooms- buyers want to see the whole house! This can be a major turnoff- what are you hiding in there?
  • Drugs and drug paraphernalia- surely this is self explanatory
