What can get a tenant blacklisted?

eviction.png

In Australia, the 2 main tenancy screening services are operated by National Tenancy Database (NTD) and TICA.

Having a troubled rental history can potentially set tenants back in applying for rental properties and make it difficult for them to be successful.

Here are the main reasons that tenants are placed on these databases by Property Managers and Landlords:

  • Consistently late rental payments
  • Property damage that is not fair wear and tear
  • Leaving bond to cover any outstanding rent

Before a tenant can be blacklisted, a landlord or property manager must provide a copy of the written complaint to the tenant, before it is lodged with a tenancy database.

Tenants can have their names removed from a tenancy database if they pay any outstanding monies, within 3 months of the due date. Payments made outside this period will see the listing changed to “inaccurate” but the tenant may remain on the database for 3 years.
